My professional journey began in the realm of education after completing my Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in the United States. I embarked on a teaching career at Gelofte High School, where I taught Home Economics and Natural Science. Although my time there was brief, it was immensely fulfilling and set the foundation for my future endeavors.
Eager to delve deeper into the human mind, I began studying Psychology through UNISA. Our family relocated to Bloemfontein, which marked the start of my lecturing career at the University of the Free State as a junior lecturer. This period was pivotal, allowing me to further my academic pursuits. I completed my Master’s degree in Psychology (M.Psig.) from the University of the Free State (UOFS) and a Doctorate in Education (D.Ed) from UNISA.
The next chapter of my career unfolded in Johannesburg. Here, I continued lecturing and enrolled in UNISA’s Faculty of Psychology for more advanced studies, driven by my ever-growing curiosity about the field. My efforts culminated in earning a Master’s degree in Psychology (M.Psy), which led to my additional registration with the HPCSA.
I further honed my skills with advanced training in counseling youth at the University of Pretoria (UP) and received formal professional training in Clinical Medical Hypnosis. My qualifications now allow me to serve as a Registered Educational and Counseling Psychologist.
My practical training was comprehensive, including internships in Educational, Clinical, and Vocational Psychology through the University of the Orange Free State. This unique opportunity was offered for the first time by the University, enabling me to specialize in all three fields.
After 12 years as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Human Sciences, where I taught Education and Psychology from the undergraduate level to supervising master’s and doctoral students, I transitioned to private practice. For nearly 14 years, I ran a successful practice at Constantia Netcare Clinic. I also served as an external examiner for several prestigious institutions, including the University of Pretoria (UP), UNISA, and North-West University (NWU).
My journey has been one of continuous learning and dedication, driven by a profound interest in understanding and helping others. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience through my psychological practice, offering insights and support to those seeking guidance.
Therapeutic orientation:
I have extended experience in working with a wide range of clients, concerns, belief systems, spiritual orientation, lifestyles and different cultural groups. She believes that it is important for each individual to be seen and understood holistically and that personal belief systems are respected in the therapeutic process.
I’m trained and have experience in various therapeutic frameworks and therefore tailors the particular type of therapy to the individual and presenting problem in order to achieve the best results. Every person is respected as unique, with a different set of expectations of therapy and presenting concerns. A full assessment for therapy enables the appropriate match and therapeutic style to be adapted to the case.
