These programmes were developed based on extensive international research on left/right brain functioning since 1980. The effect of research on the NBI® have been very significant and ongoing research at a number of universities and institutes remains an essential part of the whole brain science.
The NBI® preference profiles
The following five instruments make up the preference profiles and form the core of NBI®:
It is essential to understand your preferences before deciding to change, to shift paradigms or to develop particular skills.
Some fields where the preference profiles have been put to good use are:
The business world
Knowledge about the brain preferences of the people within an organisation, as well as those of clients and potential clients can be successfully applied in marketing. Comparing the brain profile of a job applicant with the profile developed for a specific job could indicate whether the applicant is suitable for the job. A profile analysis of frustrated employees could result in shifts within the company to place employees in positions more suited to their preferences. When an organisation feels the need to change, it is essential to determine the current thinking preferences of employees before deciding in which direction a shift should be made.
Schools and academic institutions
All academic institutions can obtain valuable information by identifying the brain preferences of teachers and students. Students with different brain preferences prefer to learn and study in different ways. Teachers who are aware of the different brain preferences in a class can adapt their teaching style accordingly, which will result in more effective teaching for all learners. Parents can also be made aware of how different study methods and environments are more or less suitable for different profile types. The profiling of students for the purpose of choosing the correct subjects is invaluable and could even assist them in making the correct career choices.
Relationships
Many relationships are fragile. Understanding your and your partner’s thinking preferences and how this impact on your relationship will go a long way to growing understanding, tolerance and excitement. Gaining insight into the differences between people leads to greater tolerance.
Personal growth
Although a lack of preference in a certain field does not necessarily impair your competency, it will result in lower levels of passion and motivation.Understanding the impact of brain preferences on your behavior will grow tolerance and diminish negativity towards those who differ from you. Living, playing and working together can become more meaningful and productive when preferences start complementing one another. As your understanding of brain preferences grow, you will learn to celebrate differences instead of rejecting others who are different.
